Sport

The Netherlands prides itself on being a sporting nation and if you want to get some exercise, the Maastricht Region has a great deal to offer.

In terms of sport, the region has a great deal to offer, with Europe’s largest indoor ski village Snowworld; climbing, rafting and XL games at Fun Valley; and a world of fitness at SportZone Limburg. For families and children there are indoor and outdoor child-friendly facilities at Kinderstad Heerlen, DrieLandenPunt and Kasteelpark Born to name just a few.

For those that would rather watch than do, the region hosts a great many events that are broadcast across the country and around the world; the Amstel Gold cycling race, the 3-day equestrian event Jumping in Maastricht (JIM), there are of course the world famous André Rieu summer concerts and the Dutch Mountain Film Festival.

Nature

For nature lovers looking to explore, the Maastricht Region has the richest and most varied flora and fauna in the Netherlands. Natural attractions such as Brunssummerheide nature reserves, the caves under Sint Pietersberg, and the rolling hills of Bovenste Bos, all offer landscapes that differ greatly from the rest of the Netherlands. Also located in the Maastricht Region is Gaia Zoo, which has twice been voted 'Best Trip of the Netherlands'.
