Gemeenteraadsverkiezingen 2022 – vote if you are eligible!

23 January 2022

On 16 March 2022, the Gemeenteraadverkiezingen (municipal elections) for Gemeente Maastricht will be taking place. These elections take place across the country every four years and, unlike other elections in the Netherlands, they are open to non-Dutch nationals. Residents over the age of 18 who hold an EU nationality may vote, and residents over the age of 18 who do not hold an EU nationality but have lived in the Netherlands for five years or more are able to cast their vote.

In the lead up to the elections, our media partner News in English will be speaking with the candidates and providing information on their party policies, so you can get to know what they stand for and why they feel they deserve your vote.

It is also crucial that these candidates are aware of the issues and areas of concern and improvement that you feel need attention over the next four years in Maastricht. So News in English has put together a short survey (just three questions) for you to give your feedback.

News in English is also asking that if you feel there is a particular question or point that should be raised during the debates and discussions that you send these through to them via DM (direct message) on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter @newsmaastricht.
