More and more English spoken at restaurants and shops

'Este mich versteis dan kal ich plat taege dich', (If you understand me, I'll speak dialect with you) was sung as far back as the 1970s. In the Maastricht horeca (hospitality) and detailhandel (retail) industries, however, this has long since ceased to be true. Increasingly, customers are addressed in English.
