Visit Zuid-Limburg’s review of Kerstmarkten in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine

Kerstmarketen in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine are more than stalls full of goodies, trinkets or brightly wrapped presents. They are often special because of their unique location or ambiance. For example markets located in underground caves and caverns or on ancient city squares with a gigantic Ferris wheel nestled between two churches. Visit Zuid-Limburg has provided a selection of wondrous winter markets in the most special places, with each of them being within a relatively short distance of each other, so why not visit them all!!

Kerststad Valkenburg

Visiting Kerststad Valkenburg is a unique experience, because nowhere else will you find two underground Christmas markets in caves. It doesn't get more nostalgic than this! Valkenburg doesn't just have one Christmas grotto, there are no less than five, and there's also plenty of Christmas fun to be had above ground.

WinterTijd Heerlen

At WinterTijd Heerlen, the cold winter days are once again given some warmth and you and yours can launch head on into the Christmas spirit. Visit WinterTijd Heerlen and have fun on the skating rink and in the gezellig winter cafés around the square to drink beers and mulled wine.

Magisch Maastricht

Aachen Weihnachts Markt

Just over the border in Germany, from mid-November onwards, you'll find the atmospheric Aachen Weihnachts Markt around the town hall. The twinkling lights, the smell of Glühwein and Printen and, of course, the yuletide atmosphere ensure that the Aachen Weihnachts Markt is one of the top 10 'European Best Christmas Markets'. Apart from the market, you can also do some great shopping in Aachen's city centre.

Village de Noël in Liège

Did you know that Village de Noël in Liège is the oldest and biggest of this type of market in Belgium? Just over the southern border of the Netherlands, this market has no less than 200 stalls where you can buy everything that has to do with Christmas and yuletide. From Christmas items and Liège waffles to Christmas beer and mulled wine. What makes the Liège Christmas market different from other Christmas markets is that a real Christmas village is recreated there.

Winterland Hasselt

In Winterland Hasselt you can enjoy plenty of winter fun: the covered ice rink, the Grand Café, the spiegeltent, numerous stalls and attractions, good for 12,000 square meters of winter fun. The eye-catcher is the Ferris wheel, which offers 144 people per ride a unique view of Hasselt's city centre and surroundings.
