The South Netherlands Philharmonic was formed in 2013; a worthy and flexible symphony orchestra that has been lauded ever since for its quality, its tight ensemble play and the radiant enthusiasm of its musicians. From season 21-22 Duncan Ward is the chief conductor. Under the direction of intendant Stefan Rosu, the South Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra is an orchestra that continuously pushes its boundaries in all aspects of its ambitions.

Experience live classical music!

The South Netherlands Philharmonic (philharmonie zuidnederland) is a symphony orchestra with 30 staff members and 107 professional musicians: strings, woodwinds, brass instruments and percussionists. It’s one of the biggest Dutch orchestras, that serves a huge area of the Netherlands (the provinces of Limburg, Brabant, Zeeland).

We play music from famous composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky or Dvorák as well as modern classical repertoire. We often give concerts in a regular concert hall or theatre, but sometimes we can be found in special locations where you can experience classical music in a completely different way. Every season we play Christmas-and Carnival concerts as well as the famous St Matthew Passion and we collaborate in regional projects such as Cultura Nova or projects with local brass bands.

Besides that, we are proud of our extensive educational program, for schoolchildren between 4-18 years old. We produce musical performances for all ages and through the efforts of our musicians and the attractive and accessible teaching material, schoolchildren are enjoying classical music a lot.

In collaboration with Maastricht University and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences we founded the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music an interdisciplinary centre for researching and shaping classical music forms.

The South Netherlands Philharmonic will remain an orchestra from and for the region. Many other activities manifest this further, such Leading the South, the innovative event that brings culture and business closer to each other. Also, we play at the Eurogress in Aachen within the context of the series MeisterKonzerte Aachen.

We hope to see you at one of our concerts!
