Lumière

Lumière is located right in the vibrant heart of the new cultural district of Maastricht.

The beautiful newly built movie theatre is known for its great selection of movies and hosts over 8000 screenings a year. The refurbished historical building used to be the power station of the old Sphinx Factories. Apart from six new cinema halls, a grand restaurant is located on the factory floors with high ceilings, lots of light, eclectic industrial interior and gorgeous views over the water. The restaurant, one of the biggest in the city, is a popular meeting point that opens daily at 11:00 AM for tasty lunches, and sumptuous dinners.

Since the foundation of Lumière in 1976 it has been on the same mission: show the world how wonderful and diverse cinema really is by showing a qualitative selection of international art house and smaller independent films. Lumière organizes film related activities in the broadest sense possible. In addition to the latest art house releases, Lumière regularly plays host to special presentations of the work of promising new filmtalent, cinema-related lectures, showcases of regional filmmakers, thematic programs in partnerships with national film festivals and much more.

Every Tuesday night Lumière shows a new feature film with either its original English soundtrack or with English subtitles.
